What it is; is Cincinnati, Ohio mixologist Fat Jon displaying his ample good taste and great musical ear. Mainly the beat master of the Five Deez, as well as producer and collaborator with many others; here he creates a dozen delicious primarily instrumental warm chill zones. There are a few vocal snips chanting phrases or cooing female choruses bobbing to the buoyant surface, as these tracks undulate onward like lost soundtracks to 70's porn films made in a sunny suburb of heaven. A warm after-hours jazz vibe permeates everything here, and though there are beats, rhythms, pulses and echoing dub elements, this never really feels like an instrumental hip-hop album (though I guess that's what it is), there's no void where a voice would be better. These smoky excursions are as deep as blue velvet curtains swaying hypnotic and slow. One track is called "Visual Music," but they are all vividly visual, full of color and seductive sultry dream vistas. This whole album takes you to a place; and then proceeds to explore this rather idyllic universe without ever slapping you or otherwise waking you from the ongoing reverie. - Dream |
