While the name of this Tempe, AZ brother duo (Jared & Michael Bell) soundz like another crap (I mean rap) group, Lymbyc Systym is far from getting hyphy in that sense. Love Your Abuser, Lymbyc's first full-length from Mush, tumbles snugly into the emotive electro-photo-synthesis of The Album Leaf (who lent production assistance on the record and wisely hired Lymbyc as the opener for their U.S. tour early this year). While drawing influences from lite-but-still-deep jazz of Tortoise and the loud/quiet drumming dynamics of Mice Parade, Lymbyc are far too musical to be trapped in bedroom-studio-imitating-land. The relentless layers of keys (pianos, synths, chimes) by Jared and the aggressive and pinpoint percusssion of Michael's drumming gives them clout to do whatever the heck they'd like, and they certainly do. With aptly titled songs like "Rest Easy/Age Kindly" and "...So We Can Sleep" you can be assured that this album is an intensely relaxing experience. Spoon away. - Re:Up |
