Following in the current trend of Mush releases, we receive the kind of cut-up hip-hopish record that Ninja Tune used to drop back in the day. Mush have been positioning themselves as the label to go to when you need a tripped out electronic fix. If that is your cup of tea, then Daedelus delivers while incorporating Latin groove, 80's synth and adventurous spirit that keeps the songs shifting and the listener guessing where the track is heading. "Sundown" is lead by a vocoder voice and an ingenius use of a live crowd clapping to carry the beat. Tracks like "Nouveau Nova" and "Bahia" bring in Brazilian beats underneath squelchy electronics that make you step back and go "Did he just do that?". But it works for the most part and makes for a great head trip. You just have to remember the emphasis is on the ideas and not the beats and perfect examples are "Dreamt Of Drowning" and "Sunrise". Denies The Day's Demise is the type of album The Postal Service would have made if they skipped the vocals and went artsy abstract with their synths. The album can be a challenging and sometimes frustrating listen but this is art asking us to drop our love of genres and expectations of electronica and listen purely to be entertained. - Properly Chilled
