Daedelus is the chosen moniker of LA’s Alfred Weisberg-Roberts, and whereas he’s explored mashed-up hip-hop influences previously, this is, well… supremely mashed-up. It’s a skilled headrush of fast moving, sampledelic genre-clashing that takes in exotic electronics, Latino, techno, bossa, analogue Aphexisms, sharp fluttering hip-hop beats, kitsch shuffles, abrasive crunches, Botempi flavors and more. Could this be modern psychedelia? It certainly feels like it. His cut and paste aesthetics would easily sound like a musical pile-up in hands less skillful, but here, the bottom line is that they’re butt-shaking fun for electronica nerds and urban hipsters alike. - DJ |
