I generally approach remix albums with caution. More often than not they turn out to be disasters, but on a rare occasion these albums will be packed with tunes that compliment the original. Thus is the case with Love Your Abuser Remixed. A prime example is the manipulation on "Astrology Days" by The One AM Radio, where the band rerecorded the main tune with various other instruments such as trumpet. Where the typical duo of Lymbyc System includes one brother on keys and one on percussion with some light electronic manipulation, here the tune is stretched beyond the fairly minimal instruments of the original. One oddity on Love Your Abuser Remixed is that the original artists are sometimes the remixers—both "Birds" and "Idle Wires" find Lymbyc Systym revising their own tunes. "Fall Bicycle" sees Lymbyc Systym edited by The Album Leaf, a fact discernible early on; the tune almost sounds like a The Album Leaf original. Other notable names can be found here, including the closing track "...So We Can Sleep", which is mixed phenomenally by Daedelus. In true Lymbyc Systym form, many songs are pleasant and meditative, like the remix of "Love Your Abuser" by This Will Destroy You. The calming nature of the song surfaces early on and the hypnotic nature remains strong despite a melody somewhat absent until the latter half of the song. The same is true on "Rest Easy / Age Kindly [Back Ted N-Ted Remix]”, which, contrary to the original, lengthens the end breakdown and adds hefty percussion and various other electronics. Overall, Love Your Abuser Remixed is just as fun and enjoyable as the original album. - Fense Post |
