Sometimes unabashedly innocent and loving music sounds unbearable to those accustomed to cynicism and bitterness. Tree Colored See, with its lazy, organic vibe, offers one of those rare collections that draws in the listener with an honest peacefulness that no New Age record could ever possess. It helps that the project brought together three musicians of fantastic musical pedigree Mystic Chords of Memory (Chris Gunst, formerly of Beachwood Sparks, and Jen Cohen of the Aisler Set) here joins underground hip-hop producer extraordinaire Nobody for this meditative set. Nobody's programmed beats couple with Chris Gunst's voice in a refreshing break from the singer's typically Byrds' influenced music. Sure, it's an over-the-top collaboration, and a mouthful to boot, but together the virtual trio creates a brilliant soundtrack to a medicated morning on the couch. - Resonance |
