Mystic Chords of Memory are Chris Gunst, ex-Beachwood Sparks, and Jennifer Cohen from the Aisler’s Set who have paired with ‘Nobody’ aka Elvin Estela to produce more dreamy West Coast psychedelia. If you’ve heard the first Mystics album, you’ll know the deal: ‘Broaden A New Sound’ is pastoral folk-psych, like an impressionist painter’s fantasy of bodies at rest in some sun-dappled leafy clearing, caressed by the warm wash of electric piano and Chris Gunst’s aching vocals. It should come with a warning not to drive or operate heavy machinery while listening to it! It’s accompanied by versions of songs from the Nobody and Mystic Chords of Memory album by Devendra Banhart (the hazy ‘La Semilla’) and the Long Lost, while DNTEL offers a remix of ‘Feet Upon The Sand’ that will go down a treat with anyone who likes the Postal Service. It’s all another interesting branch of the Beachwood Sparks family tree. - Soundsxp |
