| Pedro’s debut album is a gorgeously executed exercise in subtle multi-instrumentation, electronic production and dusty execution - a natural companion piece to Four Tet’s sublime Rounds from some weeks back. The piano is the instrument of choice for the opening cascade of “Intro”, sitting somewhere between Steve Reich and Michael Nyman with an overtly cinematic overture that sets the scene beautifully for what’s to follow. “Fear & Resilience” is so Four-Tetified it’s hard to distinguish it from its counterpart, complete with stretched dusty breaks and overlayed strums, the only counterpoint comes with a free horn section doing its thing half-way through, the sounds of rehearsal throwing proceedings into momentary dissaray before the break settles back in and you know exactly where you stand. “These Pixels...” is more overtly electronic, a bleep, crunch and church organ fighting it out along a stripped, rugged edge that’s lined somewhere along the way with a stretched, re-arranged violin - excellent stuff. Forget the Folktronica tag, this is a deeply engaging album, a hodgepodge and reconstruction of numerous and varied sounds - brought to life with an oddly harmonious scattering of ideas and goodtime pop sensibilities.
