| As an emcee, Radioinactive commands an easy going, slightly nebbish style reminiscent of Paul Barman, only with a lot more flow. This is a good thing. Instead of Barnam's snarky wordplay, Radioinactive works on the new age tip, with these lyrics opening the record: "The mastering of your solar system / The blossoming of a new consciousness." Later in the same song, he lays down, "Start the journey within." It's a surprise to say that this mostly works, and it's mainly due to Antimc's breezy, jazzy production. Anti lends a deft, light touch to Radioinactive's often heavy-handed musings, creating a flexible, almost quaint backdrop of watery funk and reedy soul. It's understated, and often sounds like it's been ripped off of a British television show from the 60s, but it complements the emcee's amiable yet odd raps. This line from the jovial "Folding Dirty Laundry" sums it up best: "Lightning's your totem / Icing the ovum through the cable modem." Right on! - Rockpile |
