Two words that should be immediately said about this album: amazing beats. Antimc backs Radioinactive's lyrics on this, the LA duo's first full-length recording together, with innovative and worldly rhythms. And let's be frank about Radioinactive's flow - it takes some time to grow on you. Following a traditional, straight hip-hop form, Radioinactive's delivery lags at times, even falling into a nonsensical free verse, street challenge style, which may not be your cup of tea. Still, upon further listening, this record has plenty of tracks that fire intelligent thoughts straight to the head. But Antimc is definitely the one to watch in this pair. He jumps from dub to funk to flamenco to jazz, even pulling off fucked-up sounds that could've been produced by the Residents. All in all, Free Kamal is a nice window into the stuff you'll find in LA's underground hip-hop scene. This is music to fill the airspace of a mellow evening. - Metro.Pop |
