John Jagos, the brain behind and sole member of Brothertiger, doesn’t aspire to be anything other than himself. His tunes are ostensibly “chillwave,” but with a sparkling melodic sense that sets them apart from other artists under that umbrella. Since the project’s beginning during Jagos’ freshman year at Ohio University, Brothertiger has developed a nuanced sound that attempts to blend the human and animal elements suggested by its name.
It’s great to see the whole ‘chillwave’ genre just growing bigger and bigger as time moves on – a genre that’s fun, doesn’t take itself too seriously and could cheer up the sourest of people. ‘Lovers’ is an excellent representation of this growing genre – chilled out beats, fun pitch bended synths and relaxed organ-like keyboard lines – all topped off with choppy sampled vocals and relaxed main vocal lines. Production plays a big part in the execution of this track – perfectly mixed instruments with breathy vocals and an abundance of random synth sounds. We can see how people are getting quite fed up with artists releasing this style of music, but you just have to have the right weather, a cocktail in hand and this blasting on the stereo – then feel free to tell us this isn’t a cracker tune! If you are currently bored of listening to Chad Valley and Fenech Soler, then let Brothertiger take the reigns. We love it! - Boost The Music |
