Golden Glow is the fantastic solo project from Friends Of Mine co-founder, and ex Lead Balloons frontman, Pierre Hall.
In October 2009, just as Lead Balloons were coming to the end of their short lived but much loved existence, Pierre was involved in a serious automobile accident that left him unable to walk for almost 6 months. His recovery was obviously a dark and tough period, but it was during this time that he found his inspiration for Golden Glow, which takes its name from the classic uplifting 80's track 'Sunlight Bathed The Golden Glow' by Felt. Golden Glow's debut album 'Tender Is The Night' was released last week, and believe me it's incredible. Having been confined to the house for so many months, Pierre began to explore the internet where he found other avenues of inspiration. The album fluctuates between genres; at times it's downbeat and shoegazy, but there are also moments of upbeat indie-pop bliss. Recorded in a very low-fi almost dirty way, Pierre at first set about to re-record the album for a cleaner studio sound, but thankfully he soon saw that the magic is in the imperfection of the recording.
This album is Pierre's journey through those tough times, it evokes both darkness and light, it shows him at his most vulnerable, during his darkest days, and while listening to songs like 'On My Own' and 'Locked Inside' it's hard not to feel moved. In the final track, 'Start Again', it becomes clear that Pierre Hall is now a man who's in a much more upbeat and happier place. We can't wait to hear more from him. - Zeitgeist |
