Mark Mitchell, the underdog in the experimental electronic music scene, has a new trick up his sleeve. Having originally used his heartfelt vocals and non-traditional songwriting on a full-length release with Australia's Surgery imprint, Clue to Kalo used to be known as SuperScience. With a full-length entitled Love Like Life in Miniature, SuperScience captured the essence of indie-electronics molded to distinct vocal treatments and melodies. Come Here When You Sleepwalk focuses on a more alternative approach where laptop production, keyboard lines and drum machines become one distinct entity. The passionate lyrics (also included in the liner notes) give the listener a sense of focus and appreciation for all things pleasant and nurturing, especially when well thought out electronic nuggets like "Still We Felt Bulletproof" display their casually brushed vocal-snippets and tweaky digital beauty for a full eleven minutes. While most of Come Here When You Sleepwalk relies on crispy electronic melodies, peculiar uptempo moments, rugged acoustics, and a foundation of sincere lyrics, Clue to Kalo is one to contend with. It's not surprising to see yet another Australian electronic mastermind displaying their passionate views on such a release. With labels like Surgery, Couchblip!, Aural-Industries and Involve being just a handful of quality electronic labels in the Southern Hemisphere, it's good to see someone reaching out to North American/European imprints such as Mush and the Leaf label. - Igloo |
