Apparently their double CD debut, A Heap of Broken Images feels/sounds like just that. But its a heap that when piled together creates a heavy and artistic set of records; taken in pieces it may not fit together, taken as a whole its interesting start to finish. The first half is full of instrumental tracks, with dark samples and often melancholy melodies. the second half is truly hip hop, dark and dirty, featuring guest MCs. The album feels much like I would picture it if I was trapped inside a movie-- maybe a dozen movies at once-- ranging from a simple storyline to the deepest story of life in the middle of the night in a busy city. I found myself enjoying the album purely for its artistic quality. It sounds like throwing paint onto a canvas and mixing the reds and greys together. Also, the fact that it is two, not one, album is impressive. Definitely give it a listen, you are bound to picture yourself in the middle of it somewhere. Beware ofthe creepy vocal snippets, they'll sneak up on you. This album is for trip hop, intrumental, and hip hop fans alike. I'm not quite sure how they'll ever follow this one up, but I'll admit I'd be interested to hear it-- if its anything like these broken images. - We Push Buttons |
