What originally started work as a remix EP of Pedro’s intense "Fear & Resilience" track, soon went on to become one of this year’s finest albums; namely down to Kieran Hebden’s (Four Tet) 21 minute reworking, forcing the earlier notions of an extended single to be reconsidered. As well as Hebden’s offering, other representations of the song are by the latest in-demand producers - Prefuse 73, Cherrystones, Koushik’s new side project Home Skillet, Dj Danger Mouse and then a slightly updated version of "Fear & Resilience" by Pedro himself. Prefuse 73, the electronic hip-hop maverick who needs no introduction, keeps to the same structure as the original but adds the trademark jumps and stutter of his Vocal Studies And Uprock Narratives masterpiece. Danger Mouse of the Grey Album fame and Cherrystones, the rare psych-vinyl obsessive, keep to a more typical hip-hop theme - a theme also reconfirmed by Pedro’s untitled interlude. It is the relatively unknown Home Skillet who mash the track into unknown territory, leaving any similarities to the album version as unrecognisable. The final remix (Four Tet) will either be loved or loathed; a free jazz, sample-heavy 21 minute bohemoth of a track, that seems to last for an eternity, could only ever be enjoyed by a select few. Hebden’s usual combination of drum breaks, saxophones and electronic undertones drift on and off over the course, veering from complete freakout jazz explosions to more serene moments.
