Aesop delivers twenty, well-laced tracks along with stellar production. The album begins with "Commencement at the Obedience Academy" a nicely put together track with production from Blockhead. "Big Bang" is another unbelievable track, with Aesop on point as usual. "The gathering of loose ends in a bucket with a shoestring budget / Every man's got a field to plow (I know that now) / But it's like, man I really can't afford the oxen," explains the emcee with multiple feelings that just have to be let out. "I'll Be Ok" features Atmosphere's own, Slug, who definitely gets a nod of appreciation for changing his delivery and voice for the smooth, harmonic beat. "Basic Cable" is just brilliant with Aesop explaining the evils of TV and how it could corrupt your mind. "6B Panorama" is another well-put together joint, with Aesop explaining things out of his window around the neighborhood. As the CD winds down, that's the only thing that does. Aesop Rock comes off as an experienced narrator all throughout the album, letting us take a peek inside his mind. There is no question that Float is one of the best releases of 2000. While it could take more than a few listens to fully understand Aesop Rock and his vivid concepts, it's definitely well worth the effort. - Strictly UG |
