MH-069 Avec Avec - Plastic Soul Redux  Plastic Soul Redux is the Mush debut from Japanese producer Takuma Hosokawa under the name Avec Avec. Late in 2011, before signing with Mush, Avec Avec released the Plastic Soul EP as a free internet download. It included two of the four tracks on Plastic Soul Redux and a bootleg mix of a song from a Japanese game show. Now reworked into a proper release, Plastic Soul Redux drops the bootleg mix and adds two additional original tracks. Combining a love for the electro-funk leanings of much of 1980's pop with modern electronic production techniques, the EP is a blast of infectious hooks, fine-tuned synth work, sub rattling stab bass, and chopped drums that sounds like Cornelius being remixed by The Glitch Mob. Plastic Soul Redux, along with a smattering of remixes and compilation tracks completed during Takuma Hosokawa's first year as Avec Avec have already established the producer's unique voice. |

| Avec Avec is the moniker that Takuma Hosokawa uses, and Plastic Soul (Mush) may or may not be a snide way of what some might call his music, or what people outside of Japan would call any type of soul and funky music from the land of the rising sun, as if Japan could not measure up. “Measure up to what?” is the question, and that is the standards created in the United States. So is Plastic Soul a soul album? In some ways yes, it’s really electronic music chopped and sliced up with various soul samples and soul-influenced vibe. You’ll hear various synth riffs that sound like they were pulled from the best late 70′s and 80′s soul, funk, and slow jams. In between, Avec Avec creates productions that could easily find its way onto albums by Dwele andPhonte, and might make people think it’s by a producer or production collective from anywhere but Japan. - This Is Book's Music |
