YES! YES! YES! It’s here, the new EP by Jealov! After their free Translations Ep (out on Mush Records) – where they made big pophits like “Temperature” by Sean Paul unrecognizable (in a good way) – they are back with more. What to expect? Jealov gave us some nice teaser with “DCW” and “unable//UNABLE” and made us very curious about more. Could they redeem the high expectations with a full EP? Of fucking course they can, we’re talking about Jealov here. Let me tell you something about my favourite tracks. Fantastic opener “Fugue” gives us Jealov at their best, some fine and intelligent use of electronics with a great chilly vibe. After this track, more of the same brilliant stuff. Spoiler alert: I’m really loving this EP! Not one bad song on it…
If they are lucky “Blakk Sun” could even be a small hit in Belgium, it has the same wintery and cold vibe like “Soldier” by Amatorski at the beginning. At the end, Mario Bros comes in and collects his coins but he always stays in the right rhythm. “19-808″ is the biggest arty track on the album, a lot of talking, some sax, some bass… Experimental, but very cool. Not that experimental is a bad thing. Actually the whole EP is quite experimental, and we love it. So we love experimental shizzle dudes! Yeah, we cool! “Part 2 (The Water)” has the coolest beat from the Ep. Crackling. And crackling is always good. After the more chilled down tracks, we come to the end of the EP. But what and end! Best track on the EP, fow show! “If You Do, You Start Missing Everybody” gives us all the elements jealov stands for in one brilliant track: dubby bass, electronics, great use of samples, triphop, hip-hop, quotes like “everything we do nigga” and a lot more. Damn this shit is HOT! I can’t even say some usefull stuff about it, it totally grabbed me by the nuts and/or blew me away. Now, is there not any song a little less cool than all the others? Not really, although ”Blue Spells” sounds a bit too normal for the rest of the EP. Are Jealov going mainstream? Are they the new Milow? Shit no! They still work their magic even in this track.
