In a similar vein to The Books, Bibio (Stephen Wilkinson) makes instrumental mood pieces, based around the deft plucking of a guitar and the choice use of electronics and bursts of vocals, flute and other instrumentation. Vignetting The Compost, Bibio’s third full-lengther, picks up the flowing stream introduced on Fi and Hand Cranked and runs with it, boasting both a maturity in songwriting and a willingness to bring his own reverb-drenched vocals to the fore. Part of Bibio’s strength lies in making his electronics sound totally natural, which counts for lots in this nature-inspired electronic canvas and results in a wonderful, lo-fi, rural English savanna. Highlights include the lush opener Flesh Rots, Pip Sown and the fantastically-warped Dopplerton. - Earz Mag
