I don't know about you all, but I'm super excited that it is Friday afternoon. I went to APT last night for a little disco get-downwith the Wurst crew, and today I'm one bleary-eyed robot. But what can I say, Roy, Doug, Jacques and Marcos were throwing it down, the gents from Oslo were playing some amazing songs that I didn't know at all, and I love those big cans of Sapporo. Anyway, to get through the day, I've been listening to Eliot Lipp's new full-length, The Outside, which comes out at the beginning of next month on Mush Records. Mush, who I've known for a while now via the DJ-breaks records by Boom Bip they put out years ago, have been doing some interesting things over the past couple of years, like putting out albums by Caural, Nobody, and the incredible most recent Daedelus full-length. Back to Lipp, we wrote about him here back in 2006 when he released Tacoma Mocking Bird, and since then he has let his sound mature, broadening his aural spectrum a bit, but still maintaining his funky, tight-yet-loose groove paired with chopped-up beats style. The Outside is a great progression, so if you've enjoyed his earlier work, it will satisfy your ears just as much, and if you've never heard Lipp before, "The Area" is a great introduction: slick synth programming, nice little groove with the guitar licks and piano, and sick drums. It should help ease you through the rest of your day and on into the weekend. Highly recommended. You can buy anything in the Mush catalog via their online store, so once the album is released (April 8th), pick it up direct, via Amazon.com or at your favorite indie retailer. Also, Lipp is playing a bunch of live shows in the near future, including SXSW for those of you headed to Austin - visit his myspace page for full info and to check out more songs from the album.
