A neutrino, for those of you who've smoked away the brain cells that contain what you learned in high school science class, is one of the universe's fundamental subatomic particles. It carries no electrical charge, hence the root of its name. It's unlikely that Atsuhiro Murakami and Hideki Kuroda, the Tokyo duo that makes up this particular Neutrino, sat around for hours debating the significance of their band name vis-a-vis their sound, but they made an appropriate match between the two all the same. Neutrino's music is elegant, minimal and inspires feelings that are predominantly neutral. It's repetitive, but not annoyingly so, with chilly-chill hip-hop beats and gentle analog quasi-melodies. There are no vocals, but Murakami and Kuro make interesting use of vocal samples. Neutrino are remarkably efficient at fading into the background. If you like stuff that creates a darkish-yet-uplifting mood without grabbing attention, Neutrino is your quite well-done cup of tea. - Splendid |
