It's hard to describe Holobody's genre, but if the term "Gospel Folktronica" makes any sense... then they're that. The opening track starts us off in a distant reverb soaked world, where distant background vocals sound truly holy, and a low and heavy sounding piano line strikes with importance making everything sound epic. As the track progresses, electronic tones are bent and sculpted around the production, adding texture. The second track rapid fires sounds from all cylinders, using samples very instrumentally, and featuring two vocal parts (female and male at different times) that sound almost hip-hop. Songs like "Way the World Goes Around" are closest Holobody comes to straight folk... an acoustic, almost bluegrass sound is created but exists within their strange and signature world, fully accompanied by reversing samples and haunting bells. Overall the album is a textural delight, and fun listen to get lost in. - Examiner |
