|MH-066 DJ Gman & Blu - The Almost Lost Tape
DJ Gman teams with Blu for The Almost Lost Tape, a new 7” that sounds both fresh and classic at the same time. Known for producing Bigg Jus' critically-acclaimed Poor People’s Day, DJ Gman provides acrobatic instrumentals that are funky, complex, and seemingly crafted with real vinyl instead of digital technology. Over these golden era inspired hip-hop beats, Blu provides dynamic verses on “All Fall Down” and “Scaredy Cats" -- effortlessly moving between loaded, wordy flows and soulful, melodic hooks. The Almost Lost Tape has the addictive energy of a true and exciting collaboration, and it's just as fun to hear as it must have been to make.
|It’s atomic. Listen to the noise and chill out. - Potholes In My Blog / DJ Gman and Blu connect with an energy thats infectious. - Bama Love Soul / DJ Gman comes to the rescue and resurrects not one, but two tracks from Los Angeles rapper Blu. - Hypetrak
|Blu is that dude. It doesn’t hurt that DJ Gman throws it down too. “All Falls Down” is the title of a Kanye West joint (which is awesome in its own rite) with no relation to this smooth jam. The track has some gorgeous vocals–some soulful howling. And, Blu, fresh off of spitting over a Madlib beat brings the heat. The production has those piano stabs that all great boom bap tracks employ and DJ scratches. You might hear a track like this at a tiny bar with a few hands in the air, but this collaboration is much more explosive than its square feet suggest. It’s atomic.
