After touring with such bands as Broken Social Scene and The Books, the brothers Jared and Michael Bell have taken Lymbyc Systym to the next level with Shutter Release. "Shutter Release" takes the quiet yet pounding instrumental approach that moves the listener to another world. Some instrumental bands can pull off concept albums, but the best ones tend to simply show off their ability to create diversity. Lymbyc Systym does just that as no two tracks sound the same. The album starts with an electronic country element on the opening track "Trichomatic" and shifts nicely into a more quiet and calming middle section with "Bedroom Anthem." There is a slow build-up with rock music in the track "Shutter Release" and the album finishes triumphantly with an orchestral section. While diversity is the album’s key, the band’s ability to make diverse songs flow well is the true accomplishment. The album is divided into parts, but each transitions so well that it is barely recognizable. The album may not have a concept, but it will take the listener for a ride and never look back. - Daily Egyptian |
