Australian singer/songwriter Mark Mitchell is set to release his upcoming sophmore album under the moniker Clue To Kalo on The Leaf Label. Mitchell has been known for his lo-fi recording style that is then transported and altered through computer technology. As the label states, this process is “the means rather than the end.” Clue To Kalo's latest effort titled One Way, It's Every Way is a stunning document of sound. With an underlying folk foundation, Mitchellthen adds layer upon layer of gorgeous vocal melodies, percussion, guitars, organic sounds and electonic experimentation. The end result is an imaginatively catchy masterpiece unafraid of its poppy sound. Like the best Beach Boys albums, One Way is a mixture of intense experimentation and melodic hooks that capture and challenge the listener immediately. Mitchell's highly personal lyrics deal with a range of emotional issues from relationships to mortality. The lyrics are often secondary, though, as the layers of sound often over take Mitchell's phonetics almost in the great shoegazer tradition where the lyrics, while vastly important, are more of another instrument. It took Mitchell two years of writing and recording in Adelaide, Austraila to create One Way which is a sonic concept album with the ultimate concept being that the record is a musical palindrome, starting off with the song The Younger The Old and ending with The Older The Young. This album is stunningly gorgeous as the cover artwork makes one aware. This book you can judge by its cover. One Way, It's Every Way is an intense experiment of unabashed joy and happiness. With psychadleic qualities, amazing organic orchestration and electonic experimentation, Mitchell and his session players left no stone unturned on this album. This is the record for beautiful fall days that will reign in the sunshine while also creating a constant cool breeze. Mitchell has created the perfect music for the perfect weather. No matter the forecast, one need only lay around indoors, turn the volume up and happiness will trickle down upon you. And if you have a good pair of headphones you will hear the utter supreme subtletly and beauty of this sonic soundscape. - Uncommon Folk |
