Let's face it, being an original MC is tough. Uncopied influences are quickly exhausted, and hip-hop which stands the test of time is a slim minority. Luckily Radioinactive is sufficiently equipped to push the boundaries of hip-hop in his own direction. The title track from "Pyramidi" is a prime example of the permutation which makes Radioinactive's style so delectable: A sorrowful horn blows over dry hip-hop beats, Middle Eastern percussion, and rapid-fire West Coast verbal wordplay making for a tight, tantalizing mix. Definitely a thinker's selection; In these thirty tracks Radioinactive runs though enough musical references to make any trainspotter's head spin, including dub, Arabic, jazz, and good old American R&B. Variety is the key to his mix, and is assembled skillfully enough to keep even the casual listener intrigued. This could be the next mutated hip-hop hit. Hotly tipped for those whose ear is drawn to Gorillaz or Deltron-3030, but desire a bit more sophistication in their hip-hop diet. - Boston's Weekly Dig |
