If you don't think melancholy can be joyful too, you haven't listened to Sun Glitters, the solo project of Luxembourger Victor Ferreira. On his debut, Everything Could Be Fine, Ferreira strongly evoked contemporaries like Boards of Canada, Tycho and Shlohmo, albeit with IDM's capital I swapped for nostalgia's N.
The almost too aptly named Sun Glitters shuffles, claps, jangles and sparkles on Scattered Into Light, but mostly, yes, it glitters, in the same way a flare does, dancing across a lens when the sun hits it just right. The new album finds Ferreira incorporating more vocals into the mix, mostly provided by Diverting Duos' Sara Cappai, but her haunted croons on "Closer to the Sun" and "Only You" only add more fuel to the nostalgia fire.
It's hard to differentiate the individual tracks on Scattered Into Light, but that's a minor quibble. Taken as a whole, it's a gorgeous soundtrack to any trip, especially ones down memory lane. - Exclaim! |
