The latest incarnation of Ryan McMahon is called Está Vivo, which means "Is Alive." The choice is a good one, because the music does just that -- creating a life-affirming free-for-all wrapped in a lo-fi indie rock / indie folk package with electronic music influences. It's no surprise at all that he's landed on Mush Records, the home of a wide-ranging and eclectic group of acts all loosely based around experimentation with electronic music. Está Vivo influences range from Spiritualized to Love And Rockets to The English Beat.
Ryan spins his tale well, saying "The seed of this band grew out of a Chicago based live electronic act I’ve toured with from 2008 to 2009 (Opening up for acts such as Justice, So-Me, Bloody Beetroots, Danger, Don Rimini, Yelle, Acid Girls, Etc. ). The band known as Bearries disintegrated and this is what has grown from it. I use everything and anything as an influence leaving myself with no limitations to encounter. While mostly writing folk/tropical type tunes, I ultimately just create by what I feel and what comes out is what comes out." - Spacelab TV |
