The latest EP’s by Vuurwerk are called Me and Plus, and if you are to put them together, they create a nice and wholesome album that is a great way to hear what he’s about. To a degree it sounds a bit different from his work as Jealov, but that might be my mind playing tricks on me. I love the aura of these tunes, how it sounds like someone taking elements out of a room one by one, and you’re hearing someone putting it together in real time. The repetitive samples and loops work perfectly and you begin to envision… perhaps paintings being created, where you’ll want to add in elements of the Earth like dirt or ashes and see hear what happens. The sped-up vocals mixed up with voices that are at half speed give it a slight angelic feel too, or at least it’ll make your naughty bits want to gyrate with lovers, especially “Teen Angst”. I like it when I feel like a song gets locked into a comfortable place, and a random sound comes in out of nowhere, or you’ll hear the original reverb or echo of the sound source and it messed up my expectations, as if it was a slap to say “hey, we not done with this. WE NOT DONE!”
I also like “Desire Go” (which comes out of “Desire Come”) and the way the voices play with one another as the piano loop helps to cradle it… it can be sexy if you wish for your mind to go that way, but with a producer’s ear, it is simple as it is fun and clever.
Either way, both Me and Plus offer another excursion into the mind of Vuurwerk/Jealov, and I for one want to book my next trip (or will be willing to hang on the hitch). - This Is Books Music |
