The Me EP is the debut release from Vuurwerk, the equally mysterious dj-based alter-ego of the already baffling Belgian electronic act Jealov. Though Jealov does perform their twisted take on post-dubstep live, they also DJ under the name Vuurwerk. Where Jealov's tracks are slow building mind-trips that include everything from rattling bass to acoustic guitars and female vocals, a Vuurwerk produced track or DJ set us much more likely to be uptempo, and at least in relative terms, DJ friendly. The EP kicks off with "Windows (Live)" a head-nodding track with an ominous touch. "Bad Habits" ups the tempo as a minimal techno beat is covered in a grimy sub-bass and chopped and pitched vocal stabs. "Naomi" takes the release in yet another direction as ambient techno suddenly gains momentum with stuttering drums underpinning a series of glitches. "Discussion" closes out a release that consistently defies expectations by once again delivering a track where it is impossible to tell what the next change-up will bring. With their truly underground video, bootleg, and original material, Jealov has made quite a mark. Vuurwerk is now poised to do the same.
