Pedro is the nom de disque of musical nomad James Rutledge, the UK producer equal parts music scholar and beatsmith. Since the release of his first EP in 1999, which marked the birth of Manchester's Melodic Records, Pedro has worked relentlessly to broaden the definition of instrumental hip-hop. His subsequent EP and compilation appearances, along with his two full-lengths, and remixes for Bloc Party, the Whip, and recent four-hour remix of Radiohead's Video Tape, have reinforced his glowing reputation and earned him nods from Danger Mouse, Fennesz, Four Tet, Hood, Kevin Shields, Prefuse 73, Andrew Weatherall and Thom Yorke. With tasteful references to the sound and compositional structure of modern orchestral work, free jazz, pastoral folk, and experimental rock music, Pedro has defined himself as a unique craftsman of collected sound.
