BROTHERTIGER
THE NEW WAVE OF ELECTRO-GAZE SONGCRAFT
ATHENS, OHIO'S BROTHERTIGER IS LESS "CHILL" THAN THE FADED PHOTOS THAT ACCOMPANY HIS MUSIC MIGHT LEAD YOU TO BELIEVE

Brothertiger, the project from twenty-two year old John Jagos, is part of the next wave of melodic electro-pop to hit the music scene after the explosion of chillwave. Incorporating his love for Italo-disco and Shalamar-inspired body-popping R&B into the hazy nostalgia-inducing sound first introduced by groups like Panda Bear and Memory Tapes, Brothertiger's music is less "chill" than the faded photos that have accompanied his music might lead you to believe.

First appearing on the scene with the 2010 Vision Tunnels EP, Brothertiger's music has always had an edge. While the dreamy reverb submerged vocals and melodic synth-work that have defined chillwave are present in ample measure, Brothertiger adds enough energy and underlying funk to his productions to let him fit in as easily with other dance artists as he does with his more washed out peers. This added element brought him immediate attention from a number of influential blogs and websites including Fader and Pitchfork.

In a genre dominated by EPs, Brothertiger decided to spend the next year-plus after his debut crafting an LP that he hoped would hold together and flow like some of his favorite albums from bands such as Tears For Fears or The Smiths did. While working on the record out of his Athens, Ohio base, he kept himself visible through some highly praised remix work. His takes on tracks by Teen Daze, Blackbird Blackbird, and A Lull all stood out and received coverage on a multitude of high profile sites including XLR8R, Indie Shuffle, and Hypetrak.

Brothertiger also began to perform live to an ever increasing fanbase. His sets push the energy and tempo of his music even further, forgoing between song breaks and changing arrangements to highlight the club and dance underpinnings to his music. With shows in New York and Chicago, festival appearances at SXSW and NXNE, as well as a number of dates closer to home, Brothertiger has fine-tuned his live set to the point where he is ready to tour. His first run of dates is an important one - a full European tour with Teen Daze that covers much of spring 2012.

All of the effort has culminated in Golden Years - a near perfect ten-track full-length released on Mush Records. With standout tracks "Lovers," "Wind At My Back," and "Reach It All" anchoring the album, Golden Years is sequenced to flow like a danceable, blissed-out classic, and firmly cements Brothertiger in upper echelon of the next generation of electo-gaze songcraft.
