pOnk is the solo project of post-rock trio mOck's multi-instrumentalist Frederik Knop - a Berlin-based musicologist working on his PhD in contemporary composition while spending his days researching and teaching 20th century music. The material he records as pOnk is a subtle blend of pristinely recorded instrumentation, tasteful electronics and ambient found-sound experimentation. His work with mOck and as pOnk has been covered in a number of German based magazines including Berlin Beat and Stern (in an article focusing on Berlin's emerging cultural scene). pOnk has supported acts such as Future Islands (Thrill Jockey), contributed a track to Creaked Records' Outer Space series and self-released an EP titled Wool And Water that was well received among fellow musicians, including LA producer Shlohmo, who wrote about the release for Wedidit Collective. With a style that reminds of the beautifully crafted meanderings of Tortoise as much as the avant-garde undertakings of Matthew Herbert, pOnk's music is equally suited to seekers of post-rock bliss and less faint-heated fans of cutting edge sound design.
