| Now this is cutting edge - but only if you happen to still be living in 1982. Still, retro is not new and, after nu-metal's cack-handed dabbling in '80s synth-pop, a bunch of Scottish art students throwing themselves into a timewarp is almost a relief. So The Magnificents opens like Atari Teenage Riot with toothache before settling down into dour pieces that infiltrate the cortex with perfect robotic efficiency and all the warmth of a low-tech android's crotch. - Kerrang! |
