| Adelaide’s Clue To Kalo has grown a larger and much grander set of wings on Lily Perdida, their third full-length album. A concept album of sorts, this foray sees the band edging closer to the currently in-vogue grandiose template for indie rock: take your song, batter it in extraneous instrumentation, stick a concept to it and belt it out like every crescendo is your last. Songs like "Hail To The Full Release, By The Boy" (yes, all the titles are similarly convoluted) fare better due to the comparative restraint exhibited, it's a simple ballad that affects immediately. If the same can't be said for the rest of the tracks on Lily Perdida it's because this is an album that you need to spend time with: it may seem bafflingly complicated at first but it truly blossoms with repeat listens. - LiveGuide |
