Ennui is Pittsbugh, PA based musician Jim Doutrich. After beginning its life in 2004 as a multi-piece modern rock act, the band evolved through its pop-heavy 2007 and 2008 releases before making a major jump in both style and prominence as a duo in 2011 with the singles "Coconino" and "We Are Young" from the full-length, Formation Of Tides. The newfound synth heavy production seemed to emerge fully formed, and despite the promotional limitations that come with being a self-release, caught the ears of a number of indie tastemakers including The Music Ninja and Consequence Of Sound. With the added confidence brought on by the universally positive feedback, Doutrich took the final steps to make Ennui a solo synth-wave act and locked himself in a studio filled with vintage synths and their modern counterparts to work on new material. The resulting album, Telepathic Beat, sounds at the same time effortless and pristinely constructed. It is an release ready to be the soundtrack to a first hot year living on your own in the city, and is nothing short of a rebirth for Ennui.
